Imagine life without a family, without money, without shelter and constantly fighting the nagging ache of desperation. Addicts travel through life with the heavy chains of rejection, dejection and suspicion. Many of the men and women who walk through the doors if FICRC are tied down with a similar story of pain and hopelessness. Over 2000 years ago, Jesus ministered to prostitutes, thieves, murderers and the outcasts of society. Who will sit with them today? It’s all about people. Jesus revolved his life around people. He made time for people, even after the bussiest of days, tired and needing to get away to a quiet place and rest. Our human tendency would be to send them away. “he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd” (Mark 6: 30-44). Jesus saw people at the center of every problem and opportunity. Sick people needing to be healed, Hungry people needed to be fed, Lost people needed to be found. People in distress needed to be comforted.
The issues we see now are so overwhelming because we have forgotten that people are at the center of every problem. And you know what? People are at the center of every solution. Good Samaritan opportunities are all around us. No application needed, no training required, no degree, no permission request needed. PEOPLE ARE IN NEED, Jesus calls us to help them, to reach them. So, we help them.
